Better bikeways and pedestrian safety

The number one issue raised when hearing from residents over the past year has been local street safety; not feeling like residents and their families can walk or ride safely around the neighbourhood.

Speeding cars, traffic congestion, lack of appropriate cycling routes, and shared paths means people getting about actively feel unsafe.

Currently, the LNP council advises all of their traffic engineers to prioritise traffic over people, putting cars above those getting about by walking or riding. They recommend narrow shared paths that mix bikes and people, lack of safe paths for walking, and bike paths that go nowhere have become the norm, with people forced into driving everywhere.

The Greens want residents to have the freedom to choose how they get around and we understand by enabling people to get about through walking and riding by building safe, direct infrastructure keeps people happier, healthier and more connected to their communities.
